So keep reading to make it a win-win situation both for you and the planet!

Save the planet and be water-efficient

Since primary school, we were always told that water covered up to more than 70% of the surface of the planet. Thanks to this, we may have grown up thinking that if there is that much water why shall we ever need to consider making efforts to save it? Well, you will be surprised to find out that about 96.5 % of it is ocean-based. Out of the 2.5% of freshwater, only less than 1% is easily accessible to us.

Water is a key ingredient for nature to survive and persist over time. It is even more important to us – human beings – since it is an essential resource for producing our food, clothing, and even the devices where you’re reading this. Water is everywhere in our daily life: from the moment when we take a shower, passing through the water we cook or drink with, to the water from the pool that keeps us chill on a hot summer day!

Now that you’re mildly aware of the situation, here are a couple of tips that will help you save the planet and save the water from home! (Please note this can be also useful to lower your water bill):

Tip No. 1: Turn off the tap!

This might seem obvious but you will be surprised at how much money you can save by taking this small but conscious step. If you’re not using water itself, be sure to turn the sinks, shower, or faucets off – and, when you do so, make sure to do it all the way off -. That way you can avoid small leaks of water that add up to your expenditure.

While brushing your teeth, shampooing or conditioning your hair, or doing the dishes be sure to always stop the water from running. Only use it when you’re rinsing the products out of it. This simple – yet useful – tip can save you a lot of money while also help to save the planet.

Tip No. 2: Wash FULL loads of laundry/dishwasher!

Is there a pair of pants that you REALLY want to wear tomorrow? Well, we’ve all been there. Try to fill up your machine each load and make it as full as possible. This way you can make the most out of your washer and you don’t waste all that water in only some jeans. You can also put some towels, blankets, etc. to make it fuller in case you don’t have dirty clothes. The same happens to your dishwasher, try to run it only when there is a full load in. Consciously using these appliances will help save the planet little by little.

You may not realize it right away, but both your washing machine and dishwasher use a ton of water and electricity. If you alter your laundry routine in a few key ways, chances are you will find a relieving impact on both your utility & water bill while also helping to save the planet. This saving can be exponential if you try to do it during off-peak times, and only wash using cold water.

Save the planet and be energy-efficient

If you recently purchased a home, or just moved into a new apartment, you might have faced the fact that energy bills tend to spark every now or then. There are various ways of purchasing, producing, distribute, and store energy, and therefore they can vary greatly from month to month. Wasting energy means more to the environment than you may think.

Energy has to be produced, and burning fossil fuels is a major source of carbon dioxide (CO2) making climate change worse. You can make some easy changes at home to make a difference, to save the planet and, – spoiler alert – If you live in a deregulated state, you might have much more chances to be the final decision-maker than you might think.

Tip No. 3: Switch to deregulated energy!

Power is generated by different means. And switching to deregulated energy gives you the chance to pick the way your energy gets generated. It can be made from renewable resources through wind farms, solar plants, biofuels, etc or by using non-renewable ones like petroleum, natural gas, or coal. All regional grids connect the energy-producing plants to the final users. And production prices vary greatly depending on the sort of power plant from which your electricity is generated.

In regulated states, utility companies charge consumers a rate based on their production cost. As the production cost varies, so does your energy bill. If you live in a deregulated state, chances are, you can get cheaper prices, and have control of how your energy gets produced. If you choose to change to renewable energy plants you will have fixed rates while helping save the planet.

Tip No. 4: If you’re not using it un-plug it, or turn it off!

As tip No. 1, this may sound very familiar to you! Electrical outlets keep using electricity when plugged, even if there is no device on the other side. Any switched-on charger that is plugged in will still use electricity, regardless of whether the device is attached or not. The cost of electricity produced from this is merely a couple of cents, but it will diminish the charger life. If you’re not using it make sure to unplug it, every dollar matters! While you do so, you also help lower the emissions of carbon dioxide, helping save the planet (win-win).

Tip No. 5: Take control!

And no, we don’t want you to be a control freak. But more than half of home energy bills go towards heating and hot water. If you make some minor changes and start using the control and timers on your thermostats, you will make sure you don’t waste energy and money.

We want to help you learn and understand the issues and help you reduce your environmental footprint. While you save water and energy you contribute to save the planet and your wallet! It’s in our hands to protect nature and look after the environment, if you have more tips on how to save the planet from home feel free to share them in the comments, at Click 2 Power we want you to make conscious decisions!
